Local history societies in Denmark, are organised in “Dansk Lokalhistorisk Forening” (The Danish Local History Association). Together with Sammenslutningen af lokalarkiv (The Association of Local Archives), they publish the quarterly journal “Journalen, Lokal- og kulturhistorisk tidsskrift”. “Dansk Historisk Fællesråd” (DHF), which consists of a number of organisations and institutions concerned with history and cultural heritage, has since 1914 published the quarterly journal “Fortid og Nutid. Tidsskrift for kulturhistorie og lokalhistorie”.

Until the year 2000, there was a Department of Local History affiliated to the History Department at the University of Copenhagen. From the time it was established, in 1970, till it was closed, the department was lead by Knud Prange.
